MADRID, SPAIN. Photographers documenting abandoned urban spaces have been in the news recently. Traveller Dan Marbaix has even been been arrested 20 times while trespassing. Motivated by curiosity and the desire to document what has been forgotten, he is not the only one to explore derelict metropolitan areas.
In the Spanish capital, the number of abandoned spaces has been on the rise since the outbreak of the crisis. In the following images, photographer Óscar Carrasco depicts a series of deserted, or simply ignored, locations in Madrid. Architectural, civil, religious, military, popular, historical or contemporary – quotidian life has left its mark on all of these spaces. But the mark is dilapidating.
The images themselves will be on view at the “Madrid Off” exhibit at La Tabacalera until February 23rd, 2014.
