The Pratt Institute in Manhattan is recruiting a Student Affairs Coordinator.

The Student Affairs Coordinator is responsible for building community among students from different departments who attend classes on the Pratt Manhattan campus through co-curricular programming and outreach. The Coordinator, working with the Center for Career & Professional Development (CCPD), also provides career and professional development counseling and coordinates professional development programming on the Pratt Manhattan campus. The Coordinator works with Pratt Manhattan students on their personal and professional development, from their first day on campus until graduation.

Pratt’s Career & Professional development program reflects a strong student centered process, building goals and action plans to build confidence, thrive and flourish in the highly dynamic worlds of school and work. Pratt’s Student Involvement program reflects a strong student development perspective, a commitment to co-curricular student involvement, an appreciation for and encouragement of diversity and an ethic of care. The Coordinator is part of the Student Involvement team and works closely with the Center for Career and Professional Development.

Responsabilities:

  • Following CCPD guidelines, meet with students one-on-one and coordinate groups and workshops around career related topics:
  • Basic and Advanced Resume, cover letter, and portfolio reviews
  • Advanced and Basic Career Strategy
  • Mock interviews
  • On-Campus Student Employment (how and where to find a job)
  • Serve as primary contact for student clubs/organizations based at PMC, including assisting students create new organization
  • Assist with implementing CCPD initiatives on the Manhattan Campus, working closely with the CCPD Assistant Director with events such as:
  • Opportunity/Career Fairs/On-Campus Industry visits
  • General career-based programming and presentations
  • Network with local organizations and businessesto make stronger partnerships in the neighborhood
  • Create a space where students can ask questions, relax, collaborate and meet other students.
  • Establish a student liaison in each academic department to assist with communication, programming and planning. This group may assist with planning and implementation of events
  • Coordinate Pratt’s incentive program for PMC event attendance and administer Collegiate Link (online student involvement program) on the Manhattan campus

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required. Master’s degree, preferably in the field of college student personnel

Experience: At least two year’s experience in campus activities or related area (may include graduate internship experience). Advising or counseling experience a plus. Experience with schools of art and design preferred.

Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of current student affairs issues, excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations, as well as demonstrated sensitivity to cross cultural perspectives and experiences.
