MADRID, SPAIN. This small, comfortable café is great for breakfast or a mid-day coffee and snack (una merienda). There are many menus with coffee and snack pairings, and a-la-carte sandwiches and salads.
The environment is great, with windows letting in a lot of sunlight, a classic Spanish serving bar, and vintage furniture spread around. There are many little sitting areas to choose between, and a little fireplace to warm the room.
Last time I was there, I ordered a vegetable sandwich for 4,50 euros. The sandwich was tasty and healthy. It came with arugula, tomato, and a yogurt spread sandwiched between three pieces of whole grain bread. The coffee was also really good and cost 1,50 euros. My friend ordered a spinach quiche of the day, which was small but tasty, and cost 3,00 euros. They also have brunch every day for 10 euros, and this includes one of their artisanal toasts (with tasty toppings like salmon and cream cheese or fig and goat cheese), coffee, fresh squeezed orange juice, and cake. Specialty coffees are available and these looked amazing.
The servers were young and friendly. This definitely felt like a hipster place, with its eclectic décor and clientele and nice food. Nightlife seems great here, with enough space to sit with friends combined with a local, bar feeling.
The environment is really rad (it makes you feel good), and because of it I will return, whether it’s for a coffee or a after work drink. The café is located near the great shopping street, Calle de Fuencarral, making it a great place to meet up mid-day. It also has free Wi-Fi.
