Notably, there is a clock tower which is part of a building known as the Real Casa de Correos which was originally built in the 18th century as part of the Post Office and now acts as the headquarters of the President of Madrid’s Autonomous community.

Puerta del Sol is a vibrant part of Madrid with an endless amount of bars, restaurants and shops to cater to all tastes. Large department store such as El Corte Inglés and FNAC can be found alongside the popular fashion stores Zara, H & M, Bershka and many others.

A very short distance away from Puerta del Sol, Gran Via (literally ‘Great Way’) is an upmarket shopping street. This attractive street is known for being one of the city’s most important shopping areas with a good number of hotel and movie theatres as well as its grand architecture.

There are many beautiful buildings available to see including the Edificio Metropolis (Alcala, 49) located on Gran Via. Another great sight to see is the Telefonica Building which was constructed in 1920 by Ignacio de Cardenas and which once was the highest building in Europe.
