MADRID, SPAIN. La Fugitiva is a small Librería Café in Barrio de las Letras. Entering, you are surrounded with a warm atmosphere filled with intellectuals.

Despite the fact that the place is small, it has a lot to offer. You can attend one of their multiple book clubs, focusing on various topics. Meetings with the fellow readers take place twice a month for nine months and the group usually accepts eight to ten members. Once forming part of the circle, you will be reading and discussing various books that are available for purchase at La Fugitiva. For more information you can email to: cleamoreno@yahoo.es.

If you are not a strong Spanish speaker, don’t worry! Due to the increased interest, the Librería Café is now offering a Book Club in English. For more information you can contact: info@lafugitiva.com.

You can also become a contertulio or a participant at the philosophical tertulias hosted at La Fugitiva. During this social gathering you will be able to discuss various books and ideas written by prominent philosophers and theorists, such as Maurice Blanchot, Félix Guattari, Slavoj Zizek etc. The gathering is led by Jorge Fernández Gonzalo, doctor of Spanish philology at the Universidad Complutense and the finalist for the Anagrama de Ensayo 2011 Award.

If you are interested in improving your writing skills, you are welcome to attend the Creative Writing Workshop. The course is led by María Peña, an editor and translator, and costs 20 euros per month. For more information about the course and its schedule you can contact: tallerdeliteraturayredaccion@gmail.com.

If none of these activities sound appealing to you, you can simply enjoy a cup of coffee and a good book.
