OPERA, MADRID. The neighbourhood of Opera is home to Madrid’s main Opera Theatre the Teatro Real (or Royal theatre).
In front of this theatre is the Royal Palace. The Royal Palace now serves as a cultural monument and is sometimes used for state functions. The architecture and gardens (the Jardines del Moro and the Sabttini gardens) are known for their great beauty.
Inside the palace, paintings by celebrated artists Velázquez, Goya, Rubens, El Greco, Juan de Flandes and Caravaggio and many others can be found. The palace is known as one of the larger palaces in Europe and some sections of the Royal Palace are open to the public.
