Writer’s Digest Magazine’s 88th Annual Writing Competition is open for submissions. All genres are accepted, and the winners receive up to $5,000 in cash.

This competition is over 80 years old and offers the opportunity to have your work seen by editors and agents. The top winners’ stories will be displayed in the 88th Annual Writer’s Digest Competition Collection.

Categories include poetry, memoirs, short stories, scrips, amongst other forms of written text. There will be a winner in each category, who will receive $1,000 in cash and $100 off a purchase from the Writer’s Digest Shop.

The top winner will receive $5,000 in cash, an interview with the author in Writer’s Digest, a paid trip to the Writer’s Digest Annual Conference, including a coveted Pitch Slam slot and a one-year subscription to Writer’s Digest Tutorials.

The competition elects up to 6 winners per category and honorable mentions. The prizes vary according to ranking.

How to enter

  • Enter online or submit your entry via regular mail.
  • Entry must be original, in English, unpublished and unproduced, not accepted by any other publisher or producer at the time of submission.
  • Due to U.S. Government restrictions, they are unable to accept entries from Syria, Iran, North Korea, or Crimea.
