If you are coming to Madrid for more than a week, a cool thing to do is take a day trip to see other cities in Spain. It’s quite easy to get to city to city if you’re traveling by train or car. You can visit places like Toledo, Seville, and Barcelona & Segovia. Getting to some of these places aren’t as cheap though and require some heavy planning if you’re planning to stay more than a day.
Toledo: Just an hour south of Madrid by car, and 30 minutes by train from the Atocha station. The cost from the train is around 9 euros. Explore the ancient city, see cathedrals and take a hot air balloon ride over the city for a beautiful view! At the end of your day, just hop back on the train back to Madrid!
Seville: A bit of a longer journey from Madrid, you can take the high-speed train AVE to get to Seville. It’ll take you about 2 and half hours to get there and 80 euros round trip, but there is so much to see and so in Seville! You can visit the Cathedrals, eat at local restaurants go on guided tours. Driving there wouldn’t be the best option since it’s about 6-hour drive unless you plan on staying for more than a day. The cheaper option for a longer stay is take a bus for 20 euros!
Barcelona: One of the most popular cities in Spain, known for its architecture, music and culture vibe the city brings. It takes 3 hours to get there by train with the AVE but it’s definitely worth the trip! There’s so much to do in Barcelona, one day might not be enough! You can explore the Sagrada Familia, visit Parque Guell or have a beach day! 60 euros round trips that can be remembered for a lifetime!
Segovia: With just an hour bus ride, you can see one of the castles that inspired Walt Disney’s Cinderella castle! The bus trip is between 6-15 euros, and it’s a beautiful day trip! It’s one of the oldest cities in Spain for history buffs out there who wants to see some Spanish history!
For other trips in or right outside the city, you can take the cable car near the Arguelles stop off the metro and take the car all the way to the other side of Madrid. On the other side there is Nickelodeon Theme Park and the Madrid Zoo! Both are around 20 euros each!
You can also take a trip to the Warner Brothers theme park just south of Madrid. 3o minutes on the high way, 1 hour by train. The entrance fee is 36 euros!
