MADRID, SPAIN. I enjoy finding cafés that seem very local. They have a really comfortable vibe, and they allow you to feel that you are entering a rare space. This is the feeling I get from Café Kino, the café-theatre.

This café functions as a mini theatre, with couches in the back from which to sit and watch movies that are shown every day. It costs 2,00 euros to see a film, and you have to opportunity to eat or drink (craft beers are available) with your friends while you watch.

They have many breakfast options, from quiches to muffins and croissants. Last time I went, I ordered bread with tomato and a coffee for 3,00 euros. The bread was toasted, and a natural blend of tomato and olive oil was put on top of it, with grinded oregano as a final touch. I enjoyed seeing that this breakfast was specially, and carefully, prepared for me. The coffee was really good and came with a small cookie and a glass of water.

They also have breakfast and dinner deals. For 8,00 euros on movie-dinner nights, you can see a movie, get a plate of guacamole, a dish, such as a quiche, and a craft beer. There are also happy hour nights, were a movie and drinks are discounted.

I talked to the bar tender for a while, and she was super friendly. We talked about the films on the schedule this week, which were all films about women for women’s month (she, naturally, is a film buff). I felt very accepted and took delight in knowing that we were bonding because of the nature of this café- it’s dedication to film, coffee, and people.

This café is super well priced, and the owners seem super interested in providing the best experience they offer- film and coffee. Because of this attention to detail and unique theatre experience, I plan to return very often

Wi-fi is free. The café is located in Lavapiés, the great neighborhood for a multi-ethnic atmosphere. You can see a film schedule on the website or at the café. Usually, three films are shown a day at specified times, and 12-14 different films are shown a month. English films are shown in English. If you want to see a movie, make sure to make a reservation.
