Madrid is considered an international art hub, boasting a number of big-name museums as well as smaller galleries. As the weather gets colder, it’s a great excuse to revisit some of these places – not only for permanent exhibitions, but for temporary ones, too. Here are some of our favorite exhibitions on now.
Tamara of Lempicka
When: Now – February 24, 2019
Where: Gaviria Palace (Calle de Arenal 9, 28013 Madrid)
What: Dubbed the Queen of Art Deco, the exhibition displays a wide selection of the Polish artist’s paintings. She is best known for her portraits illustrating the decadence of aristocracy before and after World War I, giving an interesting glimpse into life during the Roaring ’20s.

Beckman Exile figures
When: Now – January 27, 2019
Where: Thyssen-Bornemisza (Paseo del Prado 8, 28014 Madrid)
What: More than 50 paintings and sculptures on display by one of Germany’s 20th century artists. The exhibition features work from his time living in Germany as well as during his exile in Amsterdam and the United States.

Luis Camnitzer: Hospice of Failed Utopia
When: Now – March 4, 2019
Where: Reina Sofia (Calle de Santa Isabel 52, 28012 Madrid)
What: With art spanning over half a century, the exhibition is loaded with works worthy of public attention. Camnitzer is both an essayist and artist, whose work focuses on using creativity as a means of reflection – both of self and society as a whole. If nothing else, it’s a great excuse to revisit this beautiful museum!
