The 2015 Fashion Week in Milan ran from February 25th to March 3rd. This show, like the prior Fashion Week in New York, featured various different runway shows of designers show off their 2015/2016 Fall and Winter collections. This year’s fashion show featured 1970’s inspired bold geometric prints, robe style coats and bold and bright colors. Out of the many different fashion shows in Milan this past week, there were ten shows that were key in standing out from the rest.
The first show was Prada. This show featured modern designs like that of the Jetsons with a romantic appeal. The color pallet was soft and pastel (pinks, pale blue and greens, soft gold). Keeping up with the trend in fashion week, Prada showed many different retro and bold geometric patterns. Pieces shown were easily wearable by anyone.
Bottega Veneta showed off luxurious blouses with flattering high waisted trousers. The colors varied from black and whites, to pale pinks and bold reds. Patterns featured were retro with a 1970’s feel to them.
Tod’s runway show featured a lot of fall and winter friendly designs. The show opened with a pale pink leather trench coat and the following models wore various different knitted sweaters and polo necks. The sweaters were adorned with bold geometric patterns. Collection pieces were even paired with denim—a very wearable look everyday.
As a lover of leather, Fendi’s show was one of my favorites. The collection featured oversized coats and pieces adorned with leather panels and leather aprons. The color pallet shown during this show was a burnt brown orange, browns, black, and blue. Bringing further attention the bags shown in Fendi’s collection, was a bird of paradise flower poking out of each piece carried by the models.
Gucci’s collection had a younger and cool hip vibe to it. Many models wore large glasses and featured a no-makeup look. Some of the key pieces included a pleated leather kilt, chiffon blouses featuring a large pussy bow and comfortable wide legged trousers. Outside the geometric patterns, Gucci’s collection mixed in a few floral prints in the dresses.
With some of the most bold geometric patterns and colors was Versace’s runway collection. This collection was inspired by the digital age. Not only by the patterns adopted, but also in showing embroideries featuring hashtags, emojis and @ symbols. Pieces were also adorned with crystals, belts and other shiny details.
Family was a large theme for Dolce & Gabbana’s runway collection. The collection as entitled “I Love You Mamma” in which models carried their own children and babies down the runway. The children’s collection mimicked elements of the “mother’s” assemble—creating a mini me effect. Mothers were celebrated in text stitched into pieces as well as lace embellishments. The color pallet was also pastel and featured floral elements in the designs as well as for accessories on the models.
Jil Sander runway show featured modern cuts, geometric patterns and details similar to that of the 1970’s. The designs were wearable by the everyday woman with its long calf length coats and dresses, and flattering colors. The colors in this collection varied from white and black to emerald green to pops of bright orange.
Marni also featured a collection with a 1970’s appeal to it. The runway show featured long dresses and coats adorned with abstract and floral motifs. Other pieces in this collection were of solid colors such as browns and creams.
Finally, MaxMara was my favorite collection of Milan’s Fashion Week. This collection was ultra-feminine with inspiration coming from Marilyn Monroe. The pieces worn by the models were body hugging with large coats overtop. The colors were nude caramels and greys. The materials in this collection were knits, leathers and soft cashmeres.
