“Please Undress Completely and Then Shower”

BERLIN, GERMANY. An original nuclear bomb shelter is conserved at “The Story of Berlin” museum in the German capital. Here, visitors can tour the bunker underneath the Kudamm Karree. The entrance to the bunker is a shower quarter, where those seeking shelter would be asked to completely undress and then shower, so as to prevent nuclear contamination from spreading. They could then proceed to the bunker halls, which could have housed up to 3,600 people.

Earlier this year, the Berliner Zeitung reported that the museum is looking for a new location, and that a new investor is planning to tear down the bunker and replace it with a theatre, residences and a series of shops. The museum first opened in 1999.
