FESTIVAL FOR FILM-BUFFS! … 18th ANNUAL BROOKLYN FILM FESTIVAL

From May 29th to June 7th, watch over 100 films made by independent filmmakers from 20 different countries. Now in its 18th year, the Brooklyn Film Festival (BFF) is an international, competitive film festival created partly in order to draw worldwide attention to Brooklyn as a center for cinema. This year the movies will be screened at the Wythe Hotel in Williamsburg, what used to be an old turn-of-the-century factory built right on the Williamsburg waterfront. Special screenings will take place on Thursday, June 4 at the Nitehawk Cinema (also in Williamsburg). Single program tickets are $13 for the general public and $10 for students. Full Festival Passes cost $100 and 4 Pack Passes cost $35.

12th ANNUAL UPTOWN ARTS STROLL

For the entire month of June, see hundreds of art exhibitions, open studios, concerts, dance and literary events in Northern Manhattan for free. Sponsored by the Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance (NoMAA), the Uptown Arts Stroll is an annual showcase promoting local artists and leaders that have partnered up to build a stronger arts community in Northern Manhattan that is growing in the often overlooked and quickly gentrifying neighborhoods of Washington Heights, Inwood and West Harlem. The event´s kickoff is happening on Friday, May 29th and will honor artists Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ty Jones, Andrea Arroyo and Eduardo Gómez.

TASTE OF TIMES SQUARE

Bite into the finest tastes from around the globe (Cuban to Greek to Pan-Asian to good ole American fare) at Taste of Times Square, New York´s annual outdoor food and music festival. Venture on over to Times Square June 1st from 5:00-9:00pm to join in on the food frenzy – this year will also feature a first-ever beer garden! Festival admission is free; however each “taste” costs $1 and dishes cost between $1 and $6. Tickets are available for purchase on the day of the event and online (see link below).
