SARAJEVO | The Sarajevo Film Festival is the leading film festival in the region, recognized by both film professionals and the wider audience. High quality programming, a strong industry segment, an educational and networking platform for young filmmakers and thus generated presence of the international film industry, film authors and media representatives alongside a paying audience of over 100,000, confirm its status as the leading film festival in the region, recognised by both professionals and the wider audiences.
In an emerging territory of more than 140 million inhabitants, Sarajevo Film Festival serves as a common platform for film businesses from all over the region, setting the future standards in festival organisation, film promotion and presentation in South-East Europe.
However, a surprising 15,000 people came to see the films, of which there were 37 from 15 different countries. The festival grew at a remarkable pace now being the most prominent film festival in South-East Europe, attracting more than 100,000 people annually on all programmes and screening hundreds of films from 60 countries, attracting tens of thousands of people a year, as well as foreign celebrities such as Benicio Del Toro, Atom Egoyan, Brillante Mendoza, Angelina Jolie and many others.
Selections of the SFF Competition Programme presents a total of 50 films. This brings the best of regional cinema and follows the Sarajevo Film Festival strategy of discovering new talents, approaches and tendencies rooted in the world cinema today. The general interest in our Competition selections, encourages the Sarajevo Film Festival in its determination to continue working on strengthening regional film production, promotion and film distribution. Selection of Competition Programme – Short Films presents films by young and courageous authors who examine the borders film language and create powerful interpretations of the world around us.
