NYC Tartan Week
This weekend all are invited to celebrate New York City’s 17th annual Tartan Day parade. This parade initially began in 1988 to recognize the contributions made by Scottish-Americans to the United States. In 1999, the tradition began with two pipe bands and a small group of Scottish Americans who marched from the British Consulate to the UN. Since then, it has evolved into a huge event with hundreds of pipers, thousands of marchers and many more thousands cheering from the sidelines.
This event takes place on Saturday, April 11th, 2015. The Grand Marshall of the parade will be celebrated Scottish actor Graham McTavish. The parade begins at 2 p.m. at W 45th Street and continues on to 6th Avenue to 55th Street. There is no cost of attendance for this parade.
