For the first time ever, Chanel’s Métiers d’Art landed in the city of New York. The annual show, which honors the craftsmanship of the brand’s specialist workshops, debuted at the iconic Metropolitan Museum of Art. Chanel’s creative director, Karl Lagerfeld, made the decision himself, citing the city as a place where nothing is impossible. The 2018/2019 Paris-New York collection, inspired by Egypt and New York, graced the runways in the Temple of Dendur, one of the greatest ancient exhibits. The backdrop complemented the luxe gold-tweed jackets and gauzy ivory dresses reminiscent of the ones worn by Cleopatra; the loud, colorful graphics punctuated throughout the collection were a nod to the graffiti of its other backdrop, New York.
