PORTUGAL. Portugal is home to several good music festivals, especially during the the spring and summer. If you’re there on Erasmus or just on vacation, consider the artists, the atmosphere and the good beer.

Not only Portuguese attend these festivals. You will find people from Spain, France and Italy, one of the signs that something good is going on. However, the prices have been increasing in recent years, not only because of the recent economic crisis but also because of the famous and talented musicians that visit this beautiful country.

Nos Alive 2014

Lisbon has been the stage of this rock-pop festival since 2007. Located in the city Algés (with direct trains from the city center taking 15 min) and previously called ‘Optimus Alive‘, Nos Alive takes place from July 10 to 12. It takes place next to the Tagus river and the beginning of the ocean. This year brings some very well known names like Arctic Monkeys, Bastille, The Black Keys, The Lumineers and Ben Howard. Last year’s edition had Green Day, Depeche Mode and Kings of Leon as main bands, but it’s 53 euro daily ticket is not very cheap.

Super Bock Super Bock

If you already know that this is the name of a Portuguese beer, then you know that beer and the beach are the main attractions of this day festival — besides the concerts at night! Located in sunny Meco, south of Lisbon, SBSR happens from July 17 to 19. This year goers will have the chance to hear Eddie Veder, Kasabian or Metronomy. A more chilled and indie type of festival is what you can expect, but prepare for the dust of the place, which is a usual complain from everyone. If you have a car it’s even more perfect; just wake up and refresh yourself at one of the small beaches nearby!

Sudoeste Tmn

Yes, you will enjoy the sun, the beach and the beer once again! Located in the small townof  Zambujeira do Mar — a quiet place for summer vacations — in the Alentejo region, this annual festival gathers national and international people from all ages. And that’s because some pretty famous artists already performed here and the atmosphere is great. With free camping included on the five-day pass, the festival provides free buses that take you to the nearest beach, but you can also stay at the canal. If you have car, enjoy some other hidden beaches that are much less crowded! From August 6 to 10 you can have fun with Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, John Newman, Ellie Goulding, Jamie Cullum or Tom Odell.
