Street food is a great choice if you are traveling and want to experience local or international cuisine for affordable prices. In Ljubljana you will most often find kebab, byrek and burger. Not really gourmet meal, but if you know where to look you can really enjoy it.

Aga Kebabci

Here you will find the best kebap in Ljubljana. It is located on the most popular street – Čopova street and you cannot miss it. It is perfect for a snack before you go partying or when you just want to save time and money on eating in the restaurants. Portions are big so you will pretty full after it.

Hot’horse

If you want to try something really cool and out of the ordinary you have to go to Hot’Horse. They serve horsemeat burgers, hot dogs and even tortillas. The only downside is that they keep grilled meet in some kind of liquid think and it doesn’t have enough barbecue taste.

Falafel

You will probably walk along Trubarjeva street (my favourite street in Ljubljana) and if you feel a bit hungry stop by nice, small oriental style restaurant. Their falafel sandwich is very good. If you are a vegetarian or vegan this is the place you need to visit. The also offer oriental desserts.

La Brioche

Ever since this small café-patisserie it became my favourite. They serve delicious French desserts, baguette, croissants, savoury pies and other goodies. Until now I only tried their desserts (I am more into sugar), which are amazingly good, but everything else looks very appealing as well.

Fast Food Ajda

Ajda is where you can get the best pleskavica (Balkan version of burger meat) in lepinja (soft bread, like pitta) and with kajmak (creamy cheese). They also serve amazing hamburger, in my opinion the best in Ljubljana (if you do not count gourmet burgers from fancy restaurants). You can find Ajda across main train station and one closer to centre.

Puffy Lil’ pancakes

Puffy is cute. It is small. It is very good. And it is fluffy. Puffy are small pancakes, where you can chose your toppings. Nutella, white or milk chocolate, apricot jam, honey, cinnamon, Ferrero Rocher, Raffaello, coconut, almonds, cookies, roasted hazelnuts and other goodies. It is just so cute you have to try it.

Klobasarna

If you want to try something really local, traditional, truly Slovenian you have to try Carniolian sausage (Kranjska klobasa). Carniolian sausage originates from the early 19th century, when Slovenia was just an ethnic territory in Austro-Hungarian monarchy. In Klobasarna you can also try some other Slovenian dishes, but this sausage is definitely a must.
